Linux Mint 22 was released, and other cool crap of the week
The Linux Mint Blog announced that Linux Mint 22 was released. Upgrade instructions and backports for LMDE 6 (Linux Mint Debian Edition) would be coming.
Until recently I've been an avid LMDE user, and I quite like Cinnamon, so I spun up a VM in XCP-ng to play with the new release. I'd definitely still recommend Linux Mint as a great distribution for desktop users, even if I've moved away from it.
Here are a few screenshots.
Other Cool Crap of the Week
- This Week in GNOME posted that Rclone Shuttle v0.1.4 was released. It's a libadwaita frontend for rclone, a software to sync files with various cloud providers. I have yet to toy with it, but I'm excited to.
Github | Flathub - Switzerland now requires all government software to be open source
- Freetube was updated to v0.21.2 beta. Freetube is a private YouTube client. I use this one for keeping up with tech news sources that aren't on PeerTube, and was affected by a recent bug, so definitely thrilled for the quick fix and release.
Website | Github | Flathub - New (to me) software: Coolify describes itself as "An open-source & self-hostable Heroku / Netlify / Vercel alternative." I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but it has paid cloud hosting options, no limitations on a free, self-hosted install, and even has a contact link for commercial support for self-hosters. I'll be checking this one out in the very near future.
Website | Github - #MastodonForHarris: Mastodon is a self-hostable, open source, federated social media software. User @heidilifeldman@mastodon.social started a campaign to raise money for Vice President Harris's presidential race. And it's raised a crapton of money (hundreds of thousands of dollars), and there's no sign of it stopping.

- Like that toot screenshot? It's done by Mastopoet. I'm using the DMV.community instance of it.
