Taking a look at Zen Browser, and other cool crap of the week
The Linux Cast made a video about taking a first look at Zen Browser, which absolutely intrigued me. It says it's a Firefox-based browser that's focused on privacy and customization. Split views are what interested me the most, and it's definitely a little confusing at this point. But, it's an alpha, so I'm sure this feature will mature.
It also features multiple workspaces, as well as a compact mode for smaller screens.
There doesn't seem to be any inbuilt ad blocking, so you'll want to grab your favorite ad blocking extension as soon as you get it installed. In the off chance that you're reading this and don't use ad blocking, go here to get ublock origin and experience a more secure and less annoying world.
You'll even notice Chrome ads in the last screenshot. So that's fun.
Other cool crap of the week
- I'm not sure how I missed the announcement, but FreePBX 17 was released. This version makes the move away from CentOS and rebases on Debian 12. It even has a handy installation script available, so you can turn a new Debian 12 system into a complete PBX system, making cloud hosting a breeze.
Website | Github - Friendica 2024.08 was released. Friendica is one of the easiest ways to join the fediverse, as it's a PHP app that can be installed on just about any web host. It's often compared to Facebook, because of the amount of features it supports. While its appearance does look a bit dated, the ease of hosting is why it's what I run it for my personal fediverse profile.
